Privacy Policy | NotebookLM Source
Last updated: 2026-02-24
Introduction
NotebookLM Source helps you turn webpages, chat exports, YouTube playlists, and long-form text into clean, NotebookLM-ready sources. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have when using our website and services.
Information Collection and Use
We collect the following types of information to provide, operate, and improve NotebookLM Source:
-
Account Information
- What We Collect: If you create an account, we collect information such as your email address (and any other details you choose to provide).
- Purpose: To authenticate you, manage your account, provide support, and help prevent abuse.
-
User Content (Imports and Inputs)
- What We Collect: Source files you upload, URLs, chat exports, notebook IDs/templates, and import settings (for example, split mode or image processing options).
- Purpose: To run the import, parsing, formatting, and sync tasks you request, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability and safety.
-
Processed Output and Task Metadata
- What We Collect: Processed outputs (for example, Markdown files) and task metadata (for example, source type, processing mode, status, and timestamps).
- Purpose: To deliver results to you, support history/download features, and operate the service.
-
Usage and Technical Data
- What We Collect: Basic log and usage data such as IP address, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, browser type, device information, and performance/error data.
- Purpose: To keep the site secure, prevent fraud/abuse, debug issues, and improve reliability.
-
Cookies and Similar Technologies
- What We Collect: Cookies/local storage used for essential functions (such as keeping you signed in, saving preferences) and analytics (such as Google Analytics 4). Analytics tools may collect identifiers like a Client ID and device/browser data.
- Purpose: To provide core functionality, remember settings, and understand site usage and performance.
Where required by law, we obtain your consent before using analytics cookies. You can also control cookies through your browser settings or opt out of analytics where available.
Payments (If You Purchase Credits or a Subscription)
What We Collect: Payment status and purchase history. Payment details (such as card numbers) are typically handled by our payment processor, not stored directly by us.
Purpose: To process payments, provide access to paid features, and prevent fraud.
Browser Extension Data Use
When you use the NotebookLM Source browser extension, the extension handles a limited set of data needed for import and sign-in flows:
- Discord Bot/User token (chat export feature): Stored in extension session storage and used only to call Discord APIs directly from the extension. It is not sent to NotebookLM Source servers. User token mode requires a one-time risk confirmation in the extension UI. You can clear tokens at any time in the extension UI.
- Extension sign-in access token: Stored in extension local storage to keep you signed in to your NotebookLM Source account. Used only for extension auth API calls and removed on sign-out or invalid session.
- Website session cookie checks: The extension checks for presence of specific auth cookies on NotebookLM Source origins to determine login state. It does not upload raw cookie values to our servers.
- Current window tabs (optional permission): If you grant tab access, the extension reads tab titles/URLs in the current window to build import source lists locally.
- User-entered website URLs: The extension requests per-origin site access at runtime so it can fetch content you explicitly ask it to parse (for example, page links or RSS).
The extension does not run analytics/advertising trackers and does not collect unrelated browsing history in the background.
Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
Where GDPR applies, we process personal data under the following legal bases:
Contract performance: To provide the services you request (such as processing imports, delivering converted outputs, or managing your account).
Legitimate interests: To secure, maintain, and improve our services, prevent abuse, and understand usage.
Consent: For optional features such as certain analytics or marketing communications, where required.
Legal obligations: To comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.
Data Storage and Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information (including uploaded content) using technical and organizational safeguards. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Data Transfers
Our primary infrastructure is hosted by Cloudflare in United States. Your information may be transferred to and processed in other locations where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
Third-Party Processing
To run import parsing, formatting, OCR, and sync workflows, we may send your inputs (such as uploaded source files, URLs, or chat exports) to third-party AI providers and infrastructure vendors (for example, file storage/hosting, content delivery, and payment processing). These providers process information on our behalf to provide the service.
AI Training Disclosure
We do not use your inputs or outputs to train our underlying models, and we do not allow our vendors to use your data to train their models, unless you give explicit consent.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties, except in the following circumstances:
- To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- To protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or others.
- To provide services through trusted third-party partners (such as AI generation providers, storage/CDN, analytics, and payment processors) who help us operate the website and deliver the service.
We do not "sell" your personal information as defined under the CCPA.
Data Retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete user content and processed outputs within 30 days, unless a longer retention period is required by law. We may retain limited records longer where necessary for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement.
Marketing Communications
If you opt in to receive marketing communications, you can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or contacting us at support@notebooklmsource.com. Transactional or service-related messages may still be sent when necessary.

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data and request a copy.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your personal data.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Request data portability.
